Preventive Medicine

"Appropriate nutrition, adequate shelter, a non threatening environment, supportive relationships, and a prudent lifestyle, contribute far more to health and well being than does the medical care system. Medicine contributes to health directly through patient care and indirectly through the development and dissemination of knowledge about health promotion, disease prevention and treatment."

Preventive Medicine seeks to enhance the lives of patients by helping them promote their own health and prevent specific diseases or diagnose them early. Preventive medicine also tries to apply the concepts and techniques of health promotion and disease prevention to the organization and practice of medicine ( clinical preventive services).

In the direct clinical application of Preventive and lifestyle medicine we will address proper nutrition ( adequate amounts of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamines and minerals), negative behavioral factors (smoking, excessive alcohol intake) and failure to use available preventive medical measures (screening services, immunizations).
